GAOL FOR BLACKGUARD

BIGAMIST’S PLEA FAILS DESERTED FIRST WIFE "He is a blackguard and I will give him a sentence that will show him he cannot commit these offences with impunity," said Mr. Justice Stringer this morning in sentencing lan Cameron to six months’ imprisonment for bigamy. Mr. J. F. W. Dickson, for the prisoner, said the case had been adjourned to obtain evidence of the character of the prisoner’s legal wife. “I think you might take it that she is not particularly bad,” said his Honour. “He deserted her and then married this other woman.” Counsel asked that probation be given, as the prisoner’s second wife was not in good health and there were two children to look after.
