CAN MONKEYS TALK TO MEN?

SCIENTIST’S EXPERIMENT IN THE JUNGLE

Will there ever be a race of talking monkeys able to converse with man?

A member of the British Association told me here to-day that experiments of a daring nature had been carried out by scientists, but so far had been barren of results (says a correspondent of the London “Daily Chronicle.”) The chief investigator in this branch of science is an American, who for years has hidden himself in the jungle among apes of the higher anthropoid type. Living in a branch-screened cage, the American is endeavouring to gain a knowledge of the tribal conversation which he states is carried on by the apes, and to tabulate their vocabulary.
