DESTITUTE FAMILY
ONLY ONE BLANKET THREE IN ONE ROOM ANE blanket among three people all housed in a one-roomed bach—this is another example of the distressing condition which the Auckland Unemployment Association has found in the city. This destitute family, which lives in Newton Street, consisted of a widow and two children of tender ages. They had pawned all they possessed except the last blanket. The mother is very unwilling to part with her children, hut unless help is forthcoming from some quarter they will have to be committed to a Government institution. The Unemployment Association is unable to use its funds for any relief other than foodstuffs, and so' much depend on others to assist with clothes and bedding. The mother is able and willing, it is stated, to do any domestic work. rr 'r'r. :#• irvi'rt- rr ill
