CLOCK STOPPED BY EARTHQUAKE SHOCK

TREMOR AT NEW PLYMOUTH Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. A violent shock of earthquake at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon startled many residents. Quantities of crockery and other articles were thrown from shelves, and glass bottles in confectionery shops were broken. One chimney was also slightly damaged. The earthquake occurred as : o’clock was chiming, and the post office clock was stopped. The shock was short and sharp, and came unheralded. Such occurrences are not frequent in New Plymoutn, the last earthquake being over a year ago.
