CHANNEL AGAIN SWUM BY ENGLISHWOMAN

FRANCE TO KENTISH COAST—FIFTEEN HOURS IN WATER By Cable. — Frew Association. — Copyright LONDON, Friday. The English Channel has again been swum by a woman. Mrs. Gill, of Sheffield, left Cape Grisnez, France, at 9.11 a.m. yesterday, and landed at 12.20 a.m. to-day on the beach at Shakespeare Cliff, one mile west of Dover. She thus accomplished the feat in 15h. 9m. Mrs. Gill commenced her swim in rough water and occasional mist. She used the breast-stroke most of the way, but the crawl when the sea was very rough. Later the conditions were perfect. The swimmer was fed on beef and malt extract. When Mrs. Gill reached the English shore she cried: “I cannot stand.” However, she recovered after a hot drink. Boatmen are ready to swear affidavits as to the authenticity of the swim.—A. and N.Z.
