£I,OOO COLLECTED FOR DOMAIN FERNERY
FINE GIFT TO CITY The necessary collection has nowbeen completed to ensure the buildingof a fernery in the Domain to cost £I,OOO. This will form another fine gift to the city, ensured by those who, a few months ago, collected sufficient to build the second Winter Garden. The list of subscribers is not yet available, but the promise to raise the £I,OOO has been fulfilled. The road in front of the gardens is now to be carried on past the present site of the T.B. huts, and will join the main Domain Drive at what is knowntas the lower gate, the one leading off the main drive into the present play area. The new road will bound two sides of 10 new tennis courts, which the city proposes to put down, the tennis area being bounded by th*» lake and the Domain Drive on the other sides. Yesterday afternoon the Mayor’s Unemployment Committee voted £3o') for the new roading work, and it i* expected to secure a subsidy* on this. This will enable another 30 or so unemployed men to be engaged ne.\: week.
