Blank objected to boxing for two reasons—reasons of equal importance Tbe fights were not and fighting was brutal. He was opposed to the bigness ot “purses,” because they took too much money out of circulation, and because boxers were spendthrifts. He had never seen any prize fights, because they were unedify.ing spectacles. # Lastly, he was violently inimical to competitions, for he was a man of peace. Furthermore, pugilism was a futile waste of time and energy, as he had repeatedly argued'.
