IHE Spring fixture of the Auckland Trotting Club opened to-day in showery weather. Despite this drawback there is a good attendance. The track is in fair order, but somewhat holding. Results:

Floraline’s Surprise Backers were off the mark in the opening event, the Waitemata Trot, for both first and second horses returned good figures. Raima, £SOB, was best backed, with fair money for Gold Star, £427, and Caterpillar. At the start, the' favourite was among several who did not go off right. Red Dennis, Royal Bob, Caterpillar and Chessy led out of the straight. Along
the back both Caterpillar and Red Dennis got up. At the end of the first circuit. Caterpillar was in front of Floraline, Blue wood. Red Dennis, Appeal, Royal Bingen, Anseline and Raima. Along the back Caterpillar broke again, leaving Floraline to pilot Bluewood into the straight 10 lengths ahead of Appeal and Caterpillar, with Royal Bob, Raima and Gold Star following. Floraline easily held his own in the run tc the judge to win by a length and a-half from Bluewood, w ith Appeal eight lengths away third. Raima was fourth, and Roma Bingen, Gelid Star. Amaris Wins Well All started in the Improvers’ Handicap, and the betting market showed the following to be in favour: Luvan £717, Ar.ia.ris £675 and Goldman £574. Delavan Bill did not go off at all, and Festive Horn was slow to strike a gait. Logan Rothschild, Wrigley and feeatty were together going out of the straight, with Kingsclere, Buz Buz and Luvan next. Wrigley was in front crossing the top, and led past the stands from Kingsclere, Beatty, Ajnaris, Logan Rothschild, Van Rich, Luvan who broke twice, and Goldman. Along the back the next tir»e Kingsclere took charge, but Amaris passed him and showed the 'vay into the straight from Kingsclere, Beatty, Logan Rothschild. Van Rich and Bob Logan. Once into the straight Amaris came away to win by a length and a-half from Goldman, with Beatty half a length further away. Kingsclere was a close fourth, and the next to csoss the line were Luvan, Logan Rothschild and Van Rich. SPRING HANDICAP Of £1,000; 2 miles 4 MACHINE GUN (G. Won by three-quarters of a length, half a length separating other placed horses. Times: 4.39 3-5, 4.40 4.36 3-5, Fine Finish in Big Race The Spring Handicap resulted in a thrilling finish, three horses going over the line together. The bracket Tom Thumb and Talaro was a big favourite with £1,527, with Imprint, £854, next in demand, and Concliffe, CSS2, next. They all got away well, Jewel Pointer and Tom Thumb going away into the lead. This pair led past the stands from Machine Gun, Talent, and Concliffe. with Ahuriri and Imprint not having gained any ground. There was little change in the next circuit, Tom Thumb still making play, Concliff© right up, and Jewel Pointer, Talaro, Machine Gun, and Talent next, and the two back ) narkers beginning to make up their leeway. Tom Thumb and Jewel Pointer were the first pair into the straight the last tdne, attended by Machine Gun, Talent, Ahuriri, and Imprint, half a dozen lengths separating the bunch. Half'vay up the running Machine Gun challenged Tom Thumb, and got uy> to beat him by three parts of a length, Talaro, who made his run a. bit finishing fast half a head behind
his bracketed companion. Jewel Pointer was a good fourth, and then came Talent, Imprint, and Ahuriri. Concliffe was eased over the last round, and was a couple of furlongs away. GT.
