HANDS OFF THE HILLS

COMBINED ACTION PROPOSED “\yE are all entirely in sympathy witi the protection of the volcanic cones,” was the general opinion of the City Council last evening. The council asked the Parks Committee to prepare a report and suggest what action should be taken. The discussion arose from a motion by Cr. F. W. Brinsden, suggesting action to prevent further destruction of the cones. That Cr. Brinsden was not alone in his desire to stop despoliation of the hills was shown by the fact that the New Zealand Natives’ Association wrote asking to be identified with any movement to preserve the volcaniccones in and around Auckland, and the further fact that, as stated in THE SUN yesterday, the Mount Wellington Road Board has already determined to take no more scoria from the mountain from which the district takes its mime.
