HOUSE-BREAKING ATTEMPT FRUSTRATED
OWNER’S TIMELY ARRIVAL fight with intruder Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. An attempt early last evening by two men to break into a house at 901 Colombo Street North, was frustrated by the timely arrival of the owner, Mr. C. P. Agar. Mr. Agar, who was accompanied by his wife, was walking down Colombo .Street, when he noticed a light shining in the house. He walked across the lawn and saw two men mounting bicycles. He grappled with one of them, the other meanwhile escaping down the drive. Mr. Agar held on to his man, who pleaded that he might be allowed to go. Suddenly Ihe commenced to struggle, hitting out fiercely. A fight ensued, the man breaking Mr. Agar’s grip and escaping, but leaving his hat and bicycle behind. Mr. Agar received several bruises, but was otherwise unhurt. Shortly after the police arrived and took charge of the hat and bicycle. The house, which was unoccupied, contained goods to the value of about £BO. Nothing was missing.
