WHALING RETURNS.— The South Seas whaling season has now ended and all Norwegian vessels have left the grounds, reports the “Syren and Shipping.” According to a report issued h— Hambros Bank, Ltd., the catch of whale oil for the year was as follows: South Georgia, 190,430 barrels; South Orkney, 63,500 barrels; South Shetland, 181,892 barrels; Ross Sea. 108,790 barrels: Patagonia, 8,770 barrels: total, 553,382 barrels. Last year, when nine fewer whalers were employed, the catch was 481,245 bar-

COASTAL MOVEMENTS— The Ka.toa, which returned to Auckland this morning from Portland, sails at 10 o'clock to-night for Wellington and Lyttelton. The Waipiata is sailing from Auckland at 5 p.m. to-morrow for Napiei\ Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Oarnaru and Timaru. The Kaimanawa sailed from Westport at 11.30 p.m. last Wednesday and leaves New Plymouth at 9 p.m. to-day for Auckland, where she is due on Sunday. The Kaitangata, from West Coast ports, arrived at Auckland this morning and berthed at the Queen’s Wharf. The Kanna is; expected to leave Greymouth midnight to-night for Auckland and is due here early next week. After discharge here the vessel proceeds to Portland, thence Noumea and Walpole Island, to load for Lyttelton and Timaru. The Wingatui was to leave Dunedin last evening, viia Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington, for Auckland. She will not now call at Pic ton. The Kurow is to clear Bluff to-morrow, via Dunedin, Wellington and Picton. for Auckland. The Waimea arrived at Napier this morning and sails at 5 p.m. for Auckland. She is due here on Sunday and leaves next Tuesday afternoon on her return trip to Gisborne and Napier. The Gumbar, on arrival at Auckland next Wednesday from East Coast ports, undergoes her annual overhaul and survey at this port. The Ribera, en route from Montreal, arrived at Wellington this morning from Auckland and leaves to-morrow for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Brisbane and Sydney The Atholl arrived at Lyttelton this morning from Wellington and sails tomorrow for Dunedin and Wanganui. he Ornana, arriving at three o’clock this afternoon from Kawau, Mullet Point and Matakana, sails again at 6.30 p.m. for Surfdale, Ostend and Omiha. The Hauiti sails at 3 p.m. to-dav for Coromandel. She is due back again at l o clock to-morrow afternoon. The Apanui was to sail early this afternoon for Totara North, Kouhora, Kaimaumau and Parenga. She is due back again early nes:t week. The Matangi, leaving at 7 o’clock this evening for Tauranga, is due back again at 7 a.m. on Sunday. The Rangitoto, sailing at four o’clock this afternoon for Thames, returns again at 11.45 a.m. to-morrow. The Torea is to be dispatched at 3 p.m. to-day for Mangapai, Parua Bay, One Tree Point and Waipu. The Kawau leaves at 2 p.m. to-day for Waiwera, Mahurangi and Warkworth. She is expected to arrive back again at 2 p.m. to-morrow. The Taniwha, which left Auckland early this morning for Paeroa, is due to arrive back again at 5.30 a.m. to-morrow. The Waipu, due from . Kerepeehi at o o clock to-morrow morning, sails again at 1.45 P-rn. the same day for Waiheke. The Claymore arrives at 7 a.m. tomorrow from Whangarei. She is to be dispatched again at 10 p.m. on Sunday on the return trip. The Gisborne Sheepfarmers* steamer Tiroa left Gisborne at 8 o’clock last evening for Auckland. She is due here on Sunday morning, and loads on Monday, and sails again at noon on Tuesday for Hicks Bay and Gisborne. The Isabella de Fraine sails this afternoon for Hokianga and way ports. The Coronation loads to-day and sails at noon to-morrow for Awanui North. The El.sie Mary is scheduled to leave this evening for Gisborne. The Ronaki arrived last night from Portland. The Mahurangi sailed last night for the Coast. The Rotorua sailed from Auckland yesterday afternoon for Wellington, where she is due to-morrow to complete her discharge of London cargo. The Turakina, is leaving Auckland this afternoon for Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin to land the balance of her Liverpool cargo. The West Nivaria, which left here last evening, is due at Napier to-morrow morning, to continue her discharge of Pacific Coast cargo. The Kia Ora leaves Lyttelton to-day for Dunedin to complete the discharge of her Liverpool cargo. The Pacific Transport is due at Westport to-day from Auckland, and, after loading bunkers, proceeds to Ocean and Nauru Islands.
