TIVOLI

“Dove’s Greatest Mistake,” which opened as the chief feature at the Tivoli Theatre last night, is one more production fo:r Paramount to boast of. For this, the picturisation of Frederic Arnold Kummer's Liberty Magazine serial of the same name utilises all the screen artistry developed since the motion picture had its conception. A fine cast including Evelyn Brent, Josephine Dunn, James Ha.ll and William Power, combined with a fine story make one of the outstanding pictures of the year. It has just the right touches of comedy which blend with the drama. Briefly it tells of a girl who is bored with her life: in a little country town and who sets off for the great metropolis of New York seeking adventure. She achieves a mental stability and a true valuation of life after a series of harrowing episodes that nearly result in her losing the man she loves. She mistook gifts and attention for love, and it is on that the story hinges. A delightful comedy, “Taxi! Taxi! is the second feature on the programme. The story of a man who purchases a motor-car in which a murdsr has been committed, and the subsequent thrills lie experiences. This picture provides an admirable vehicle for Hidward Everett Horton. It teems with fun and laughter and makes a pleasant acquisition to the evening’s entertainment. The second series of “The Collegians” is also screened and creates plenty of laughs. There Is also an. excellent supporting programme of topical pictures.

Eight V.C.’s and many other decorated men re-live the gallant deeds that won them their distinctions in “Mons, the all-British picture wh.ch Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is releasing throughout Australia and New Zealand. Captain Walter Summers, M.C., D.C.M., M.M., directed this epic of the famous retreat, and had the full co-operation of the Army Council.
