A PRIZE NOVELIST—
The author of “Grandmother!,” which has just been awarded the Harper Novel Competition Prize, was born in 1901 at Kewankum, Wis. His father is a farmer—his people hare been farmers since the 17th century. The novel is at once a work of piety to the traditions of Wescott’s family, though not “biographical,” and a chronicle in which American life is faithfully mirrored. Like so many good Americans, Mr Wescott has found his way to France; and “Grandmothers” was finished in a little Mediterranean fishing village.
