NEW BUILDING ON OPERA HOUSE SITE

SIX-STOREY STRUCTURE Plans have been completed for the erection of a new six-storey structure for Smith and Caughey, Ltd., on the site of the old Opera House. It will be a ferro-concrete building with a basement and provision for a seventh storey. The frontage to Wellesley Street will be 1095 ft and 71ft to Elliott Street. The floor levels will correspond with those of the firm’s present building. The intention of the owners is to utilise the first four storeys for its own requirements, and to sub-let the remainder as offices. The top floor will be the headquarters of the Auckland Lyceum Club. The work of clearing the site is almost completed and tenders will be called for within a few weeks. The design is the work of Mr. Roy A. Lippincott.
