FURTHER PROGRESS new hall every month ACTIVITY IN AUCKLAND On his arrival in Auckland this morning by the Limited, Commissioner *ames Hay, of the Salvation Army, expressed his delight r.t the great advancement made by the Army during tke past year. Although he realised that the appeal would bo affected as a result of the period of tinancial stringency just passed through, he was confident that Self-Denial Week, which was now being held, would again recoive the same liberal and encouraging response as in the past. “During the last year we have opened a new hall every month; we ar# having a very busy time,” stated tiie commissioner. He added that hoth in social and evangelical work the activities of the Army had considerably increased of late. To cope with those increases there T>aa an urgent need for extra accommodation in practically every district, and in Auckland quite a large building programme was now in hand. CONGRESS HALL In January next a start would be made with the new Congress Hall in Grey’s Avenue. This building, the commissioner said, would seat ovor •'OO people in the auditorium, and in addition there would be three separate halls for children, class-rooms, social hall and a large bandroom. The jHiilding would be as large as any of find in Austral.a or New Zealand, and certainly the most up-to-date. .Ir the Congress Hall will also be mtuated the central offices for the Auckland district and it was hoped •hat; they will be occupied in August ■next.
In addition there was also to bo greeted a new brick home for men at "Worn, for which tenders would shortly he called, a new Rescue Home at Parand new halls at Avondale, Grey Lynn and Pukekohe.
