FARMERS’ TRADING WINS FINAL AN EXCITING ENCOUNTER The replayed final for the interhouse Soccer competition took place at Blanclford Park yesterday under ideal conditions, before a good attendance of enthusiasts, when the Farmers’ Trading Company team retained the championship trophy, after an exciting game, in which Power Board was defeated by 2 goals to 0. The teams were; Farmers’. —Mclnerney, Woods, Marshall, Pickett, Bush, Lawson, Guthrie, Crocker, Kean, Kennedy, AlcDonald. Power Board. —Thomas, Hassen, Low, Brown, Corbett. Landsley, Hayes, Palmer, Thompson, Donaldson. Goodman. In the first half the Board men had the better of lively exchanges, but sound defensive work by Pickett, Busli, and Mclnerney kept the Farmers’ goal intact, and in spite of strong attacks by Palmer, Goodman, and Hayes, no score was registered at half-time. In the second half the youth of tbe Farmers’ team on the hard ground gave them the advantage of seeing out a gruelling game in better condition. The veteran All Black, “Jock Corbett, was conspicuous in spoiling the Farmers’ attacking movements, tut finally a combined rush swamped the Board’s defence, and the youthrui Crocker ran in, to score from close up. Excessive heavy charging by a Board player gave a penalty to Farmers’, and Pickett slammed the spot kick into the net, the whistle sounding with the company club 2 up after a strenuous tussle. At the conclusion of the game, Air. R. H. Bartley, manager of the Auckland Power Board, presented the handsome trophy donated by the Farmers Trading Company, and cor Ira tula toil the winning team on its well-deserved victory. -
