PERSONAL. —Air. R. E. Osborne has been appointed second officer of the Kahika, relieving - Mr. H. Ruegg, who is on holiday. Mr. S. E. Gaskin, chief officer of the Kaitoke, has transferred to the Kaimanawa, and Mr. E. Sutherland is Xiow on holiday. Mr. D. N. McLeish has been appointed chief officer of the Wahine, and Mr. H. C. White has transferred to the Winjgatui in a similar capacity, relieving -Mr. E. A. Cox. who is on holiday leave. Mr. W. J. Freeman has been appointed chief officer of the Kaituna. Mr. J. Joyes, second officer of the Kaituna, has been relieved for his holidays by Mr. N. Archbold. MARAMA FOR SYDNEY.—At 3 P m. to-morrow the Union Company's passenger steamer Marama leaves Auckland for Sydney, where she is due early next Tuesd#/ morning. ULIMAROA FOR WELLINGTON. — The Huddart, Parker steamer Ulimaroa sails from Sydney at noon to-morrow for Wellington and is due there next Tuesday morning. The Ulimaroa is the o:ily passenger steamer arriving at New Zealand next week from Sydney. WAI PAH I SAILS TO-MORROW.—The Union Company advises that the Island fruit steamer Waipahi is being dispatched from Auckland at 5 p.m. to-morrow for Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu and Mauke. KANNA FOR WALPOLE ISLAND. — The Union Company advises that the Kanna is expected to leave Grey month to-day for Auckland, where she is due on Sunday and, after discharge at Auckland, proceeds to Walpole Island via Npumea to load for Lyttelton and Timaru. HU RUN UI AT AUSTRALIA. —The New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised by cablegram that the Hurunui arrived at Sydney on Sunday, to continue discharge of her Liverpool cargo. She will next discharge at Newcastle and Brisbane. KAIAPOI REPORTS. The Union Company have been advised by radio that the cargo steamer Kaiapoi, en route from Bunbury and Hobart, is expected to arrive at Auckland at 10 a.m. on Saturday next. After discharge here, the vessel proceeds to Wellington and Lyttelton to complete. HAURAKI DUE SUNDAY.—A radio message received by the Union Company states that the motor-ship Hauraki is expected to arrive at Auckland on Sunday from Pacific Coast ports. After discharge here, the Hauraki proceeds to Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney to complete. KAPONGA DUE 9 P.M.—According to a further radio message received by the Union Company, the collier Kaponga. is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at 9 o’clock to-night from Newcastle. She is to berth at Western Wharf tomorrow morning, and, on completion of discharge, the vessel undergoes her annual overhaul and survey at this port. O. A. KNUDSEN LEAVES SAN LUIS. —Cabled advice has been received that the tanker O. A. Knudsen left San Luis Obispo on Saturday with a cargo of fuel oil for discharge at Miramar. The vessel is due at Wellington about October 29. CAMBRIDGE LEAVES NEW YORK.— Cabled advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Cambridge arrived at New York on October 5 from Auckland, and sailed again on October 7 for .London. The vessel left Auckland on September 7. THE CANADIAN PROSPECTOR. — The Canadian Government Agency has been notified by cablegram that the Canadian Prospector arrived at Panama at 8 a.m. on Friday from Auckland, and sailed again in the afternoon for New York, Boston, and Montreal. The vessel left Auckland on September 7. MESOPOTAMIA REPORTED. Cable advice received by Spedding, Limned, states that the tramp steamer Mesopotamia, en route from Java, left Cape More ton yesterday for Auckland, where she is due next Monday with a cargo of raw sugar for the works at Chelsea. HI NEMO A REPORTS—A radio message received by Spedding, Limited, states that the Government steamer Hinemoa is expected to arrive at Auckland at 2 p.m. to-morrow from Niue Island. The vessel is to leave here at midnight tomorrow for Norfolk Island instead of on Monday next. Cargo for Norfolk Island will be received all day to-morrow.
MIDDLESEX SAILS SATURDAY. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Middlesex leaves Auckland on Saturday for w ellington to complete her loading for Home. She is now to sail finally from Wellington on October 20, instead of October 22, for London, via Panama.
PAKEHA DELAYED. —Now at Fort Chalmers loading, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the steamer Pakeha leaves on Saturday for Lyttelton and Wellington to complete. The final departure date of the Pakeha has been fixed for October 31, when she wall leave Wellington for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe.
MATAROA TO COMPLETE—A. S. Paterson and Company advises that the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Mataroa leaves New Plymouth to-day for Wellington. Napier and Auckland to complete her loading for Home. She is due here on October 24 and sails finally from this part at daybreak on October 29 foi Southampton and London, via Panama. TANKER LINCOLN ELLSWORTH The Vacuum Oil Company advises that the Norwegian tanker Lincoln Ellsworth left San Francisco on September 15 with bulk fuel oil for discharge at Sydney, Lyttelton, and Dunedin The vessel is expected at Dunedin about October 20. The Lincoln Ellsworth is a new srnp. She was built at Gothenburg early this year, and is of the cruiser stern type.
MARYLAND IN DOCK. The tramp steamer Maryland, which arrived at Auckland early last week with a cargo of raw. sugar from Java, completed discharge at Chelsea last evening and went iuto dock at nine o’clock this morning: to have her hull cleaned and painted, she comes out again to-morrow morning and sails later the same day for Westport for bunkers before proceeding to Nauru or Ocean Island to load phosphates, probably for Auckland. EPSOM AT AUCKLAN D.-**-After an extended voyage, during which she has almost circled the globe, the Britain Steamship Company’s steamer Epsom arrived at Auckland last evening to complete the discharge of a cargo of phosphates from Juan de Nova. The vessel brought a full cargo from the island to Bluff, where 3,000 tons were discharged. Another 1,000 tons were put out at Dunedin and the remaining 2,500 tons will be discharged at King’s Wharf.
The Epsom loaded railway iron at Sydney (Cape Breton) at the beginning: of the year for Vancouver (8.C.), where she took on a full cargo of grain for Dunkirk. Steel rails were taken on at New port (Monmouthshire) for the Egyptian State railways, and the vessel procetided in ballast from Alexandria ter Nosi Be (Madagascar). She arrived at Nosi Be on July 4, and after tailing on labourers, left next day for .Tuan de Nova to load her present cargo. The island was reached on July 7, and the Epsom remained there until August 5, taking on phosphates. A call was made at Delagoa Bay on August 10. and then the vessel made for Bluff, arriving there on September 22. Rough following weather was experienced all the way from Juan de Nova to New Zealand, and good weather prevailed for the trip up the coast to Auckland.
Captain J. Hunter is in command, and the following are the officers: Chief, Mr. E. Teri-y; second, Mr. R. Thomas, and third, Mr. B. Sly: chief engineer, Mr. T. Brown; second, Mr. H. Roberts; third, Mr. T. McGuffog; fourth, Mr. D. Cooper; wireless operator, Mr. R. Irwin; chief steward, Mr. W. Hodder.
A. S. Paterson and Company are the local agents. The Epsom is expected to complete discharge on Tuesday next, but her future movements are unknown.
PORT OF ONEHUNGA—
DEPARTURE YESTERDAY ARAPAWA (4.30 p.m.), 291 tons, Burk, for Westport, via Wanganui.
ARRIVAL TO-DAY KATTOA (8 a.m.), 319 tons, Martin, from Nelson.
The Kaitoa, which arrived at Onehtinga this morning from Nelson, via New Plymouth, sails again this evening for Nelson and West Coast ports. The Arapawa is expected to leave this afternoon for Wanganui and Westport.
The Hauturu left last night for Raglan, Kawhia and Port Waikato. She is expected to arrive back again early :iext week. _ The Ngapuhi, sailing tWs afternoon for New Plymouth, returns to Onehunga again at 7.30 a.m. on Saturday.
