Motor-Car Crashes Into Electric Pole
TWO PERSONS INJURED DRIVER HEAVILY FINED A FIVE-SEATER motor-car A owned by Mr. Parkinson, of Emma Road, Mount Eden, crashed into a large wooden transmission standard, just past Penrose on Grant South Road, at about seven o'clock last evening. The driver, who was travelling toward town, evidently mistook the road, as he finished up on the righthand side. As n result of the crash, Daniel McLaren. a married man, residing at Valley Road, Mount Eden, was admitted to the hospital, suffering from concussion of the brain. Another occupant of the cal', Mr. McLoughlin, suffered laceration of the tongu?, which necessitated a couple of stitches. Two other men, occupants of the car, suffered from shock. The car was badly damaged. The bonnet and engine were wrenched back, and the windscreen shattered. HAD BEEN DRINKING
At the Police Court to-day Harold McLaughlin, the driver of the car, was lined £2O, for being intoxicated jvhile in charge of a motor-car. Accused pleaded guilty to the •barge. Sergeant Turner said that a. party of four men were out in the car yesterday, visiting Onehunga and Papakura. They had been drinking, and took turns at driving. While accused was driving, the car struck a post, and was badly smashed. Th« raagistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt (to accused): What do you do for a living? Accused:: I was a community car driver, but the cars are now off the road. Mr. Hunt: So are you. McLougalin was fined £2O. his licence was cancelled, and no new one will be issued for two years. Frank Goddard, who was also in the car. was fined 5s for drunkenness, and £1 for driving without a licence.
