N.S.W. ELECTION. —The state of parties in the New South Wales election is unchanged, pending the receipt of absentee votes. —A. and N.Z. HOTEL BURNED. Fire destroyed the Lake Boga Hotel, at Swan Hill, Victoria. The damage is estimated at £20,000. —A. and N.Z. BRITISH UNEMPLOYED.—The last return shows that unemployment is again increasing in Britain. The number of unemployed on October 3 was 1,075,900, being 25,785 more than fti the prior week. —British Official Wireless} DISASTROUS FIRE. A message from Ocean City, New Jersey, states that more than 50 buildings at this seashore resort have been destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at £600,000. —A. and N.Z. LOANS IN AUSTRALIA. At the conclusion of the meeting of the Australian Loan Council the Commonwealth Treasurer, Dr. Earle Page, said the council ha.d decided to recommend the Governments represented to take steps to reduce their loan requirements to the minimum.—A. and N.Z. ADEN GARRISON. —It is announced in an Army Order that the War Office has assumed direct responsibility for the administration of the military forces which form the garrison of Aden. The military control of Aden was transferred from the Government of India to the British Government with effect from April 1 last. —British Official Wireless. SAMOA COMMISSION.—The sitting of the Royal Commission on Samoa yesterday was wholly occupied by hearing the evidence of Samoan witnesses who alleged various derelictions of duty by the Faipule. They admitted that the members of the Mau had resolved not to pay taxes to the Administration this year.—A. and N.Z. BOUNTY ACTS —Returns tabled in the Commonwealth House of Representatives at Canberra disclose that during the year ended on June 30 last the amount paid out by the Federal Ministry under various Bounty Acts, amounted to £ 530,000. Manufacturers of iron and steel received £256,000, arid growers of dried fruit, the Tasmanian hop industry, and canned-fruit packers, £242,000. The bounties on sulphur amounted to £ 34,000. —A. and N.Z. AIRPLANE FAILS. —A Heinkel seaplane of SG9 horse-power, with a crew of three, departed from Berlin for America, but came down at the western end of the Kiel Canal. —A. and N.Z. BEECH AM TRUST. —The official receiver has informed shareholders of the Beecham Trust (in liquidation) that the available assets are about £ 134,467. The dividend to creditors will be only a few pence a £. The total liabilities are £1,098,850. —A. and N.Z.
