Malicious Attempt to Destroy Mails
LIGHTED PAPER IN POSTING BOX AT KINGSLAND OFFICE A contemptible attempt to destroy letters was made at the Kingsland Post Office some time last evening. When the clearance-man opened the posting-box just before midnight he found a dozen charred letters in- the bottom of the box. They were still smouldering. Fortunately all the addresses on the letters . can be read and they will be forwarded to their destinations from the General Post Office, Auckland, with an explanatory note. The paper mail-notices which are pinned on a board above the postingbox had been torn off, lighted with matches and dropped in the box among the letters. But for the arrival of the clearance officer much damage might have been done. Mr. C. B. Mclsaacs, postmaster at Kingsland, says that he looked into the entrance lobby of the office at 10.15 p.m.. Everything was quiet then. He said that he had had some trouble recently with hooligans who made a nuisance of themselves outside the building. The officials are seeking any information regarding anyone seen loitering round the Kingsland Post Office. The post office is situated on the New North Boad, in a closely-settled area.
