LATE MRS. E. L. FITNESS

Mrs. Ellen Lydia Fitness died at the home of her son, Major C. G. Fitness, of the Salvation Army, at Grey Lynn, yesterday, at the age of 78. Only three months ago her husband, Mr. Ebenezer Fitness, died. She was born in Saxmundham, Sussex, and arrived in Auckland in 1862 with heir parents in the ship Matilda Wattenbach. Her farher settled m East Street, Newton, where! two of the sisters still live. She was married m 1870 and for various times lived n Taranaki, Wiri, Drury and latterly in Auckland. All her five sisters survive her, their ages ranging from 77 to 88 years. Mrs. Fitness is survived by a family of five daughters and four sons, Mrs. S. Hamilton, Pukekohe; Mrs. J. Askew, Inglewood; Mrs. H. Harrison, Stratford: Mrs. G. Jennings, Westport; Mrs. G-. W. Carter, Cambridge; Major Fitness, of the Salvation Army, Auckland, and Messrs R. Fitness, Goraonton, and T. W. and R. E. Fitness, Putaruru.
