MAYOR OF INDIANAPOLIS CONVICTED GAOL AND A FINE By Cable.—Press Reed. 10.25 a.m. INDIANAPOLIS. Wed The Mayor of Indianapolis, J. Duvtufi; has been convicted of violating the State corrupt practices law, sentenced to 30 days’ gaol, lined 1,000 dollars and disfranchised for four years. Duvall’s lawyers immediately appealed to the State Supreme Court, automatically staying the execution of the sentence, and permitting Duvall to have freedom on bail.—A. and N.Z. A New York cablegram of September 10 reads as follows: A; telegram from Indianapolis says the Governor of Indiana, Edward Jackson, and two other officials have been indicted by a Grand Jury for attempted bribery and. conspiracy to commit a felony. The Mayor of Indianapolis, J. Duvall, has been indicted for violating the Corrupt Practices Act. The indictments arose out of a long series of court actions which involved Jackson’s predecessor, McCray, who has just served a term in prison following upon his conviction for embezzlement \v*lle in office. Revelations are said to have been made by high officials of the Ku Klux Klan. who are also serving terms in prison. The result of a murder charge led the Grand Jury to start the investigation, which ended in the present indictments.
