HUNTLY TOWN HALL
RAISING FUNDS (From Our Own Correspondent j HUNTLY, To-day. An interesting combined programme; of pictures, hakas, poi dances, songs, etc., was given in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. The picture show occupied the first half of the entertainment and a party of Maori entertainers the second. Specially painted scenes of Mount Tarawera from the lake, whares. etc., were done for the occasion and prior to the opening of the entertainment, half of the proceeds of which go toward the purchase of the new town clock, a band of stalwart natives, garbed in true Maori style, with mats and taiahas, paraded the main street, led by George Awa.
The Maori entertainers showed talents of no mean order and tlieir orchestra of steel and Spanish guitars, ukeleles, etc., was distinctly good. Wheta Herewini had charge of the musical portion of the programme. The graceful poi dances and wild hakas received their full share of the appreciation. The transparent scenery, enhanced by sudden lighting from behinc:, depicting Tarawera in eruption, was well-conceived and the spectacular effect good. The special scenery was from the brush of Mr. Will Diamond.
