SWIMMING CLUB’S PROSPEROUS YEAR
WAITEMATA MEETING The sound financial position and the strong membership roll were the subjects of praise by Dr. T. H. Pettit, who presided at the annual meeting of the Waitemata Amateur Swimming Club last evening. Mr. W. Johns, who retired from the committee, was elected a life member. The club, last year, sent teams to Dargaville, Whangarei and Helensville, and Mr. D. Mulvihill suggested that arrangements should be made to include Pukekohe this year. It was decided to leave the suggestion to the committee to make arrangemen ts.
A letter was received from the Olympic Games Council asking that the club affiliate.
It was decided that members’ subscriptions would have to be paid by December
The election of officers resulted:— Patron, the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon; vicepatron, Mr. E. H. Davis; president, Mr. George Tyler; vice-presidents, last year’s were re-elected, and Messrs. C. Welson, H. R. McKenzie and G. Y. Birch; club captain, Mr. J. Meikle; lady captain, Miss Piri Page; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. A. Edenborough; handicapper, Mr. C. A. Edenborough; water polo selector, Mr. W. J. Gibbons; delegates to Auckland Centre, Messrs. J. Enrigrht, C. A. Edenborough and J. Meikle; committee, Messrs. D. Mulvihill, L. Kenny, J. Rutledge, J. Enright, J. Meikle, H. Morton, W. J. Gibbons, E. V. Cunnold, A. E. Baird, V. Smith, W. J. Davidson, F. Fairgray, F. and G. Hedges, and L. Rowson.
