SEQUEL TO GATHERED GOLD

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday

The Gathered Gold-Promenade case wan advanced to finality at a meeting? of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association this afternoon, when W. McCarthy, owner of Promenade, was disqualified for life. McCarthy had been summoned to appear before the board to show cause why he should not be dealt with for having “rung-in” Promenade as Gathered Gold in Australia. McCarthy did not appear. The chairman, Mr. J. H. Williams, said the offence was a very serious one —one of the most serious that could be committed against the rules. He moved that McCarthy be disqualified for life. The motion was carried without discussion.
