ROADS AND COUNCILS
The relaying- of the tram lines along Ponsonby Road is now nearly com pleted, and motorists; may soon hope to see that road clear of its longstanding obstructions. * * * The concreting of the New North Road, from KLingsland to the Mount Albert tram terminus, is now completed. • * * In order to cope with increased traffic on the Great South Road, brought about by the concreting of the highway to Papakura, the narrow railway bridge south of Manurewa is being straightened. In addition to easing the curves, the plans provide for greater width, which will permit of two-way traffic with safety. The Waiuku Chamber of Commerce is forwarding a remit to the conference of chambers of commerce in the Franklin district, on October 19, that the conference support the proposal that the road via Brown’s Gully be made the direct highway from Waiuku to Auckland. * * * With the advent of finer weather, road conditions are improving everywhere throughout the province, and many of the clay stretches which have been impassable for several months past are now capable of carrying motor traffic. On quite a number of roads graders have been at work recently, and smooth surfaces are assured. * * • In order to keep his road information absolutely up to cate, the Service Officer of the A.A.A., accompanied by Mr. J. Park a member of the council, will, weather permitting, make a tour north during the coming week-end. They plan to go through to Maungaturoto via the West Coast motor route returning via Waipu and Warkworth.
