Road to Kawhia. —lt: is expected that a complete metalled toad .will be provided between Otorohanga and Kawhia in the summer of 1928. Shearing Commenced. Sheep farmers in the Otorohanga district have commenced shearing their sheep, and so far clips are reported satisfactory. Maori Education. —Mr. P. Smyth, secretary of the Te Akarana Maori Aiisociation, will speak on Maori education at St. Stephen's College schoolroom, Parnell, on Tuesday evening. Factory Assistant Injured. —George Oakley, aged 20, third assistant at the Kiverbank dairy factory, Ngawapurua, near Pahiatua, was seriously injured through being caught in machinery belting. Home Mission Affairs. —The Presbytery of Auckland sat this morning to consider the reports of home mission stations and tiie allocation of grants. The Rev. J. A. Thomson, Moderator, presided. Onohunga Street Renamed. —At a tneeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening it was decided that as there were two Elizabeth Streets in the borough, Elizabeth Street North should be renamed Yates Sreet. Whangarei Teacher’s Death.—Mrs. hthel Hollway, second lady assistant at the Whangarei High School, has just died at the age of 61 years. She secured her appointment in 19L6, previously having taught in England and kouth Africa, and served as a V.A.D. nurse in the South African War. New Dunedin Post Office-—' The Cabinet decided to- day to take the preliminary steps toward the building of an jw post office in Dunedin. The old Pos'- office building in Princes Street be demolished, possibly by the beSinning of next month. The builidng w ill be of steel and concrete, with apPruite facing material. Charitable Aid Ethics.—The Thames Hospital Board had a problem in charitable aid before it yesterday, when assistance was asked for a famwhile the husband was serving a term of imprisonment- It was decided not; to give wives of prisoners preference over the wives of poor, but honmen. . Waterside Worker Injured.—Suffering from a fractured right leg, a water*Uie worker, Mr. Harold John Davis, was taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance yesterday He was unloading cases tfc asbes t°s from the Aorangi when jne accident happened. Mr. Davis ives at 21 Grosvenor Street, Grey Lynn.
