WHANGAREI PARTIES

A very pleasant surprise party was held at the residence of Mrs. Nield and Miss Alva Nield, Kamo Road, on Thursday evening. About 30 young people foregathered, and time sped quickly until after midnight, when the gathering dispersed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” On Wednesday evening the Bridge Club held the breaking-up party at the residence of Madame Brainsby, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. There were seven tables, and the prizes for the season were won by Mrs. Wolff, Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Harmon-Smith, while the prizes for the evening went to Mrs A. D. Jack, and Mrs. Delamore. and to Mr. W. N. Jack and Mr. West. Branches of the white double-flower-ed cherry were used to decorate the large room, and proved very effective, being much admired by the guests of the evening. After a very dainty supper had been served, the president, Mrs. Sword, moved a vote of thanks to Madame Brainsby for allowing the use of her room, and all joined in singing, "For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” * • • Mrs. Edgar Simmons, Mill Road, gave a most enjoyable ladies’ bridge party at her residence on Thursday evening.
