TOWN V COUNTRY
ORATIA YOUNG PEOPLE DEBATE “Thai: i:he Town is Better Than the Country,” was the subject of a debate held at Oratia under the auspices of the local young- people’s society. In addition to those who participated the convincing arguments put forward for and against, were closely followed by a large* gathering of residents. For the affirmative the attack was launched by Mr. Angus, Mr. Taylor following for the negative. The Misses Theet and Davidson, and Mr. Stone supported Mr. Angus, the Misses Stone and Firth and Mr. Davidson opposing. Amusements, health and economy were dealt with in turn, and after the respective leaders had fired their parting shots, the judge,, Mr. Porritt, announced his decision in favour of the affirmative by S 7 points to 73*. The chairman, Captain Theet, however, then appealed to the meeting for its opinion—the result being unanimous in favour of the negative. THAMES PLUNKET SOCIETY At ti e Thames Plunket Society’s monthly meeting, Mrs. W. White was elected a .’.it'e-member of the societjr in recognition of her husband’s generosity in conveying the Plunket nurse in his buses free to the Hauraki Plains. The saving to the society is estimated at £IOO. It was decided to hold a street collection in November. Nurse Perrin reported that attendances at the room for the month were 2:21, and visits to homes !I6 at Thames. Visits had been paid to Kerep hi. Ngatea, Turua and Waitakaruru. The attendances at these places totalled 1 lt>.
