OPENING OF SEASON A PIONEER CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, Monday. In the presence of a large number of visitors, the Pukekohe Bowling Club opened its season on Saturday. Representatives were present from the Auckland, Grey Lynn, Buckland, Tuakau, Manurewa, Waiuku, Devonport, Patumahoe, Carlton, Ponsonby, Rawhiti, Rocky Nook, New Lynn and Mangere Clubs. The Auckland Centre was represented by Messrs. S. Coldicutt (vice-president), A. B. Barter (country club’s member), H. Clarke (Dominion singles champion), and P. J. Scantlebury. Among others present were Messrs. W. E. Johns (president of the Northern Waikato Bowling Association), A. Parsons (Dominion exchampion skip), and C. G. Brookes (the Pukekohe Club’s delegate to the centre). The club president, Mr. J. Pollock, extended a welcome to the visitors, and solicited the co-operation of the members during the* ensuing season. The vice-president of the Auckland Centre, Mr. S. Coldicutt, spoke in eulogistic terms of the Pukekohe Club, which he stated was the pioneer of bowling in the Northern Waikato. Other speakers were the club patron. Dr. C. H. Wake, of Milford; the association president, Mr. W. E. Johns; the president of the Auckland Club, Mr. G. J- Mac Kay, and Mr. A. B. Barter, the first president of the Pukekohe Club. Amid cheers Mrs. Pollock threw the first jack. During the afternoon the following games were played; Executive Match.—Auckland Centre v.
