THE SUN’S RACING COMPETITION
£lO Consolation Prize
The popularity of THE SUN’S “Picking the Winners” competition was reflected in the increased number of entries received for the contest based on the programme of the opening day, last Saturday, of the Auckland spring meeting. Over 35,000 coupons were received, and of this number not one succeeded in picking the card. There were seven races for readers to try their skill and knowledge of racing form upon. npHE best effort resulted in five win- -*- ners out of the seven. Several selected Paleta, and a few pinned their faith to Hipo, both of whom paid large dividends. The first prize of £2O, for the one selecting seven winners, was not won, but the consolation prize of £lO for the competitor selecting the most winners, goes to the one who sorted out five winners. This was F. Davies, Ngaruawahia.
This competitor sent in Charitaine, Paleta, Aussie, Te Monanui, Glendowie, Prince Humphrey and Day Guard. He missed on the first and last races only. A. cheque for £lO has been posted to this winner.
No less than 23 competitors were successful in naming four winners, and some of them had a second as well. The names of the 23 are; A. de Silva, Edward Street, St. Heliers Bay; H. This week’s competition is on the trotting meeting next Saturday, the closing time being 10 a.m. on Saturday. Then, of course, there is the £I,OOO Two Cups competition,
