“ROMEO AND JULIET” TO-NIGHT

“Romeo and Juliet,” the divine love story of all time, will be presented at His Majesty’s Theatre to-night by Mr. Allan Wilkie and Miss Hunter-Watts and their company of Shakespearean actors. Miss Hunter-Watts will play Juliet, and Mr. Dennis Barry will be cast in the role of the love-lorn Romeo. The characterisation of Friar Lawrence has been allotted to Mr. Wilkie. To many, ‘‘Romeo and Juliet,” the play for lovers, is the most exquisite bloom in the Shakespearean bouquet. It is a ta-le that never grows pld. For to-marrow’s matinee Mr. Wilkie has selected “The Tempest,” a comedy of polished beautj r , in which he will play Caliban. This is his first production of this play in Auckland. For the evening performance the company will produce “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “Hamlet” will be played on Thursday night. “Twelfth Night” will be revived on Friday night. The week’s performances will be concluded vfrith “Anthony and Cleopatra” on Saturday night, and it will also be played again on Monday. “The Winter’s Tale” was last night’s performance. Mr. Wilkie was the jealous Leontes, while Miss Hun-ter-Watts was a nathetic figure as his wronged queen. Sweetly sympathetic was Miss Lorna Forbes as her friend Paula. Mr. Dennis Barry was a. dellightful Florizel. The box plans are at Eady's, and at Coleman’s after five p.m.
