NEW REGENT
“MISS N.Z. 1927” CONTEST The 10 Dominion finalists now appearing at the Regent Theatre in a fashion parade are arousing a great deal of enthusiasm as the voting for the choice of Miss New Zealand 1927 com - menced yesterday. “The Prince of Headwaiters,” starring Lewis Stone, is the feature attraction at the New Regent Theatre, and provides an engrossing story. Pierre, a Parisian art student, marries Faith Cable against the wishes of her father, who forces her to abandon her husband. He never learns that before her death she has given birth to a son. eYars later Pierre becomes a headwaiter at the Ritz Hotel in New York, a position of considerable renown, for it brings him into contact with the wealthiest spenders in the world. During a New Year’s celebration at the Ritz he meets three college boys and their party girls. One of the boys, to whom Pierre immediately feels an attachment, is being made the victim of a notorious golddigger. In his efforts to save the boy from this woman, Pierre makes the discovery that the boy is Ills son. John Cable, father of his wife, admits that Elliott is his son, but warns Pierre that he will be ruining his boy s life if he reveals the truth to him. De;termined to save his boy in spite of all, he threatens the gold-digger, only to be insulted by his son for daring to interfere. As a last resort he enlists the aid of his son’s sweetheart, Beth. Finally convinced of the folly of his infatuation for the gold-digger, Elliott returns to Beth. But though he is grateful to Pierr§ for helping him, he cannot understand his motive. Beth knows, but does not tell, so Elliott goes away without ever finding out that Pierre is his father. Margo Rammage and her Dolls, a J. C. Williamson Celebrity Vaudeville attraction, presents quite an entertaining act. Maurice Guttridge and the Regent New Operatic Orchestra, tenders the “Merry Wives of Windsor,” which meets with unstinted applause from the audience.
