ROYAL AUCKLAND CHOIR

BENEFIT CONCERT A benefit concert given in aid of the scout movement by the Royal Auckland Choir and gold medallists at the recent competitions attracted a fair attendance at the Town Hall last evening. The programme was pleasingly varied and with good talent available an enjoyable entertainment resulted. A part-song, "Come Merry Com rades All” (Becker) opened the programme, followed by a solo from Mr David Campbell, a vocal bracket from Miss Edna Peace and a character re eital “Pussy” by Miss Tess CarteLloyd, an item which created consid erable amusement. "The American Salesman.” by Mr. J. B. Finlayson, was another item which proved very popular. also a vocal solo “The Hills of Donegal,” sung by Miss Sybil Phillips.

Others who were responsible far the success of the entertainment were Messrs. J. McDougall, A. G. Fogerty D. Lunney, H. S. Reynolds and Misses Dorothy Richardson and Eva Wrigley The programme concluded with the “Soldier’s Chorus” from "Faust” (Gounod), given by the choir.

"La Gondole aux Chimeras” (The Gondola of Fancies), the famous French novel by Maurice Dekobra, has been purchased by Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer for screen translation.
