COMPENSATION FOR LOST LEG LONELY MAN FOR ROTO ROA A piece of human wreckage, with no one to care for him, Edward Lomas, stood in the dock at the Police Court to-day. TIE appeared for sentence on a charge of attempting to commit suicide. Constable Du Temple said that accused lost a leg at the Dunedin Exhibition, and received 41800 compensation. He had spent this money on drink, and was now penniless. The Magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt: Is there no ons to take an interest in him? The Constable: Apparently not. His wife won’t live with him because of his drinking habits.

Mr. Hunt: The best place for him would be Roto Roa. I will remand him for a week so that he can make an application to go there.
