The exchange rate for sterling in New York yesterday rose to 4 dollars 86 63-64 cents. This is the highest value recorded since 1914. Usually at this time of year the rate moves against the pound as there is a demand for dollars to pay for big crop and other imports from the United States. —A. and N.Z. OCCIDENTAL-UN A. The manager reports: The intermediate level on the footwall dropper has been extended 6ft and quartz broken showed nice dabs of gold. The crosscut to intersect the No. 1 reef has been extended 6ft in nice, hard blue country, interlaced with silica veins and flinties, which makes it bad for shooting. We intend to push this level ahead this week with two shifts.
