WAIPA CLUB

DECEMBER MEETING PROGRAMME DRAWN UP (Special to THE SU:V.) TE AWAMUTU, To-day. Affairs of interest engaged the attention of members of the Waipa Racing Club at a special meeting held on Friday evening. The president, Mr. F. Quin, presided. Advice was received from the District Committee that, owing to an objection by the Whangarei Club, Te Kuiti Club’s request ,:>r permission to race on the Waipa Club's course on November 5 could no: be entertained. It was suggested instead th it Te Kuiti race in conjunction with the Waipa Club, by holding a two-day meeting on December 17 and 19. This did not meet with favour, members contending that it wts likely to injuriously affect Waipa’s own oneday meeting. Horse-owners and suporters of the club would not favour a two-day meeting in tie middle of December. No direct communication was received from Te Kuiti Club, but the Probable explanation is that Te Kuiti bad only just received the District Committee’s decision, not having had time to consider the position it is now faced with. Messrs. Weal and young reported having arranged a programme involving £1.120. The suggestion was for £1.200 in stakes, but in view of the state of affairs in racing circles elsewhere it was though: advisable to reduce the total to £1,120. The amended programme is as follows: Pirongia Hurdles, 15 miles, £110; Handicap, 7 furlongs, £110; ’Vaipa Plate, 6 furlongs, £110; Te Awamutu Cup, 13 miles, £300; Pateningi Welter, 8J furlongs, £120; Orakau Handicap, 7 furlongs, £110; Flying Handicap. 6 furlongs, £150; Ohaupo Handicap, 7 furlongs, £llO. Mr. Weal thought the stakes for the C,, P should be reduced, and considered that £250 was ample for the event. That would enable winners of any other race to receive at least £IOO. Attention was called to the state of *he Country Club’s Breeders’ Association The secretary had forwarded °' vners mares statements supplied to him by the secretary. Members or Waipa Club were shown as owing £lB7 10s. One member expressed the opinion that the Breeders’ Association should be wound up.
