75TH ANNIVERSARY OF BERESFORD ST. CHURCH

“N.Z/S GREATEST DANGER”

Large attendances at the Town Hall yesterday marked the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Beresford Street Congregational Sunday School. Three inspiring services were held during the day. A large choir of children and adults led the singing under the baton of Mf. William Gemmell. The preacher at all services was the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher, minister of the church. “New Zealand’s Greatest Danger” was Mr. Fletcher’s subject at the evening service. He said that the greatest hope for the future of New Zealand lay in the young people of the nation. The wonderful physique of children of the Dominion was the subject of great admiration by visiting doctors and others. “But a wonderful physique is a poor thing to depend on unless it is combined with an equally fine character.” Pilfering, dishonesty and impurity were the direct result, in many cases, of young people living beyond their means. The speaker urged the young people to link up their lives with Christ that they might build a wonderful nation in righteousness and godliness.
