DEVONPORT WINS SECOND GRADE FINAL
The match between Devonport and Remuera for the second grade knockout competition final was played at Carlaw Park on Saturday and resulted in a win for Shore by 15 points to 7. Devonport had little difficulty in beating Remuera after a fast and open game. As was expected with a dry ground, the winners made the best use of a speedy set of backs, with whom the forwards combined well. Remuera found O’Leary a hard man to bring down. He was one of Shore’s best backs. Shortly after starting Bird succeeded in putting two penalty kicks over, and till five minutes before half time Remuera was four to nil. Saxon, Speake and O’Leary put on a try each before the whistle went for half time. In the second half Wells and O’Leary scored two good tries for Shore. In the last quarter Renayne score d for Remuera after running nearly the length of the field. For the winners Saxon was perhaps the outstanding player, while for Remuera Renayne played a very good game.
