EMPIRE

“THE OVERLAND LIMITED” Seekers in search of a thrill have only to journey to the Empire Theatre this week and see the latest Master picture, “The Overland Limited.” It is impossible in a limited space to

describe the rapid action and many exciting moments of this photo-play, but the reader must imagine a fast express train dashing along with a maniac creeping over the top of the engine to attack the engineer, the struggle in the cab, and then the

train running wild, with a madman at the throtle. Then shift the scene to a new steel bridge, with two men silently cutting through the girders with an acetylene torch. The train reaches the bridge, and suddenly the bridge collapses, plunging the steel monster into a raging torrent below. The above are but a few scenes in this remarkable film. Then, too, there are romantic love scenes between Malcolm McGregor and Olive Borden, a new screen beauty, a lot of wholesome comedy, and some moments of pathos. “Lovers,” starring Ramon Novarro, will also be screened this evening.

Lon Chaney has begun work on “The Hypnotist,” a new mystery story, in which he is being; directed by Tod Browning. He plays the part of a Scotland Yard detective, using hypnotism to unravel a strange mystery in an old English mansion. Marceline Day, Conrad Nagel, Henry B. Walthall, Polly Moran, Edna Tichener, and Jules Cowles are included in the cast.

Mary Pickford worked for two months on “My Best Girl ” the new picture now in progress at United Artists’ studio, before anyone heard anything about the rest of the cast, aside from Buddy Rogers. It is now announced that Hobart Bosworth takes the part of the father of Buddy in the film. Lucien Littlefield, the little comedian, is also included in the cast.
