THREEYEAROLD CLASSIC RACE

DETAILS OF THE DOZEN STARTERS IN G.N. GUINEAS With a dozen remaining in the fourth three-year-old classic to come up for decision this season, the Great Northern Guineas at Ellerslie on Saturday there is every prospect of the mile event furnishing a splendid contest. No doubt there will be two or three drop out of the race before starting time to-morrow, but these will be three-year-olds who have very little form to recommend them for such an important race. Catkin and Flying Tresses started only twice last season, without getting in the money, and La Roma did not make her first appearance in public until a fortnight ago. This accounts for this trio having no winnings credited to them as two-year-olds. GOOD WINNINGS Gascony headed the list of winning youngsters last season, and Laughing Prince and Paganelli each secured over four figures in stakes for their owners. Included in the field are Damaris, winner of the Wanganui Guineas; Laughing Prince, winner of the New Zealand Eclipse Stakes and Avondale Guineas; Great Charter, second in Wanganui and Avondale Guineas; Catkin, third in Avondale Guineas; Paleta, second in Hawke’s Bay Guineas; and In the Shade, third in Wanganui Guineas. Gascony and Paganelli, both smart two-year-olds last season, will .be making their detbut as three-year-olds.
