Auckland To-Day
Warmth which creeps into every stone; -footsteps and hearts which are lighter with the promise of summer and sand and the sea. Daisies which drift like snow on the lush lawns of Albert Park. Gold and crimson of profligate ranunculi; the rich magenta and florid pink of the bold but beautiful cineraria. Grafton Gully a billowing sea of translucent green, where the sweet scent of the wood hyacinth drifts up to the pavement. The first butterflies try their flimsy wings in Myers Park, whose liolow holds both sunshine and the happy laughter of children. Sun worshippers everywhere. Old people with sleepy eyes who tell tales of the sea and ships on the waterfront; young people sharing their lunches with the sparrows in every park. And from every vantage point, the dreaming harbour, lapping round ships and boats with insistent patter.
