ANNUAL GYMNASIUM DISPLAY BY Y.M.C.A.

HIGH STANDARD SHOWN FEATS OF STRENGTH AND SKILL Last evening’s excellent gymnastic display at the Scots Hall given by athletes of the Young Men’s Christian Association reflects the highest credit on the director of physical culture, Mr. Frank Rogers. A remarkably high standard was shown in each performance. The squad drill and long-horse work of the younger was particularly meritorious for their age. The turn which appeared to find highest favour of the large audience was an exhibition of horizontal bar feats of astonishing skill and grace given by the two “Bidgroves.” “Art in Athletics,” as demonstrated by Messrs. Len Wilson and McMillan, undoubtedly made a strong: appeal. The pair performed some attractive and artistic feats of muscle and graceful balance. A. varied and well-arranged programme included boxing and wrestling bouts, illustrating the science of ring and mat. Matt Hatton and Frank Pea.rcey staged the fistic display, and Tom Bidmead and “Curley” Sadgrove wrestled. Another item of more than ordinary interest was provided by six girls, who performed with skill on parallel bars and gave a display of rhythmic dancing. Musical accompaniment to the drill exercises was well rendered by Mr. Barry Ingall’s Hawaiian Orchestra.
