Woman Kissed By a “Ghost”
Unafraid in “Haunted” House A large house, several hundred years old, and standing in its own grounds within five minutes’ walk of Denmark Hill Station, Camberwell, London, is said to be haunted by the spirit of an aged white-bearded man, a former owner of the property. Living in the house a.re two women and a six-year-old girl, all of whom swear to having seen the spirit flitting across the hall and entering different rooms. On one occasion, states one of the women, she not only saw the spirit, but felt him press a kiss on her forehead. She saw him standing by her bedside and bending over her. He was smiling, and after kissing her went toward the door and disappeared. "X was not afraid,” She said, "as he looked so gentle and kind. I sprang from the bed to follow him, and found the door locked, with the key turned on the inside. Just as I left it when I went to bed.” The occupants of the house reported the strarge occurrence to Mr. W. H. Speer, president of a psychic centre in Southwark Bridge Road. "A circle including myself, my wife, the Rev. j. AVelcli (a medium) was formed at the ‘haunted’ house,” said Mr. Speer. "The medium went under the control of his guide, ‘Rainbow,' an Indian who told him that the old mail, a former owner of the property, was present an* wished to clear up something concerning a desk which was behind the door in the library. _ "Strangely enough,” Mr. Speer adaed, "one of the occupants said that when they first took the house it was furnished, and there was a desk behind the door of the library, now a bedroom. “I then put questions to ‘Rainbow, who said that the old man was named George Taverner, and owned the property over 70 years ago. He died in 1854- He wanted to find his desk, as there were important papers m secret drawer which would prove that his niece was entitled to a share of the property which he left. “He was told that the desk had been sold years ago and no prospect of it being traced.
