BETTING ANOMALIES

PUBLICATION OF PRICES AN EDITOR FINED .Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. For the publication in the New Zealand “Sportsman” on September 10 and 17 of the starting prices of horses taking part in races in Australia, B. C. Warner, the editor, was to-day fined £3 anci costs. Counsel said it had been the practice of the “Sportsman” for three and a-half years to publish the starting: prices of Australian horses. Care had been taken not to publish any prices in connection with races run in New Zealand. The magistrate commented that it: seemed incredible that any journal should be unaware of the provisions of the Act. At the same time it seemed anomalous that news should be made available to the public in Australian papers that came to this country.
