Cricket in the Province
WAIKATO ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Waikato Cricket Association was held last evening. The chairman, Mr. Reid, presided over a good attendance. According to Mr. Reid the report showed that the past year had been very satisfactory, although a much regretted feature was the absence of the High School team from the competitions. The revenue from ground fees had substantially increased, the income amounting to £477 and there was a credit balance of £ 9 16s Id. The Hamilton East Club wrote stating that it strongly opposed one-day matches. The Piako Association advised that, although it was at present affiliated with the Auckland Suburban Cricket Association, it thought that greater benefits might accrue to it if it linked up with Hamilton. It was decided to send representatives to the Piako. Association’s annual meeting, and the matter was left in the hands of the chairman. It was resolved to abolish the existing system of compiling competition points, and to adopt a scheme of allowing four points for an outright win, three points to the winner and one point to the loser where a match was won on the first innnings, three points each for a tie (level scoring), and two points each for a draw where there was no decision in the first innings. A suggestion was made that this season’s fixtures be played as one-day matches until Christmas at least, to give the proposal an adequate trial. A resolution to make a recommendation to the Management Committee on these lines was lost by eight votes to seven. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Hon. J. A. Young; president, Mr. !■’. Hawke; secretary, Mr. V. A. Dixon: treasurer, Mr. E. J. Whiting; hon. auditor, Mr. R. Johnson, Junr.; delegate to Now Zealand Council annual meeting, Mr. J.
