ST. HELIERS LANGUAGE

RESIDENT’S SENSE OF CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY BLACK EYE FOR PAINS Feeling that, as a resident of St. Helier’s Bay,.he had a right to protest against the language being used by two men last night, Enoch Knight got a black eye for having a sense of civic responsibility. Knight told his story at the Police Court to-day when Alfred Joseph Oagna!ll,iaged 26, and Alfred Ensor, aged 29, were charged with using obscene language. Ensor was also charged with assaulting: Knight. Complainant said he saw the two accused last evening, and heard them using bad language. ‘As a resident of the Bay, I asked them to .cease,” he said, “and then Ensor struck at me several times and knocked me down.” Dagnall, in evidence, said that he and Ensor had about four handles of beer yesterday. For using the language accused were each fined £3, and for assault Ensor was fined £5, the magistrate ordering that half the amount be paid to Knight.
