MAJESTIC
“LADY WINDERMERE’S FAN” Ernst Lubitsch’s production of “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” will be shown, for the last time to-night at the Majestic Theatre. He has discovered a new Irene Rich and both the master director and charming star are equally delighted at the discovery. Even the most ardent Iren Rich fans will be amazed at the metamorphosis of the wistful, neglected wife of the screen into one of the most brilliant and sophiticated of charmers — and tliis is exactly what Lubitsch and her role in Oscar Wilde’s sparkling play have done for Irene Rich. No one of the remarkable characterisations which she has given the picture public since “Beau Brummel” can match the repression and subtlety of her per - formance in “Lady Windermere’s Fan.” This is the result of the first combination of the directorial brilliance of Lubitsch and the histrionic brilliance of Miss Rich. Other prominent members in the cast of “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” are Ron - ald Colman (by arrangement with Samuel Goldwyn), May McAvoy, Bert Lytell and Edward Martindel. Tom O’Brien, well-known comedian, who had important roles in “The Big Parade,’* “The Flaming Forest,” “Tin Hats,” and many other Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer successes, has been added to the cast of “Twelve Miles Out.” John Gilbert’s new starring picture. o’Bri€.*n also played an important part in “The Fire Brigade,” In which Charles Ray and May McAvoy are featured. “Twelve Miles Out” was taken from the popular stage success. The story is wound around the continual battle being waged between rum-runners and the prohibition authorities. The feminine lead is taken by Joan Crawford, and the supporting cast includes Ernest Torrence, Betty Compson, Aileen Percy, and Bert Roach. 9
