Bookmakers Hit Hard
ONE FIRM PAYS £40,000 BIG LOSSES AT RANDWICK By Cable.. —Press Association.^Copyright Reed. 1 p.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Exceptionally heavy betting marked the first two days of the Randwick meeting. It is estimated that the bookmakers lost £IOO,OOO over the success of Vaals in the Epsom Handicap and Murillo in the Metropolitan. One leading firm of bookmakers had to pay out £40,000 on two wagers, besides other heavy obligations. All of the bookmakers were more or less hit,, particularly over the doubles. It is reported that one of the smaller operators was unable to meet his obligations immediately.—A. and N.Z.
