PLUMBER OR APPRENTICE?
WHO SHOULD CARRY TOOLS? “Having remembered his tools and returned for them, who should carry the kit to the job—the plumber or his apprentice?” ancient “plumber” jest was re- . , vi ved by Mr. Justice Frazer in the Arbitration Court yesterday. “J. always hold,” said his Honour, ‘ that no self-respecting plumber should ever condescend to carry his own tools. He must have an apprentice to carry them for him.” The case before the court was a request that the area of the Apprentices Committee’s jurisdiction should be extended to include all the area within 20 miles of Auckland City. Mr. S. E. Wright, opposing the application of Mr. J. Clark, secretary of the Plumbers' Union, asked that the existing scope, a 10-miles’ radius, should be maintained. The court reserved decision.
